Fearless Fair Isle workshop with Sandi Rosner January 19th!

December 31, 2012

Sandi Rosner is returning to teach a Fair Isle workshop at fashion knit!

Fearless Fair Isle: Saturday, January 19th, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. $65

Stranded “Fair Isle” style colorwork is a classic technique that belongs in every knitter’s repertoire. Experiment with one-handed and two-handed methods of handling the yarn to see which is more comfortable for you. Learn simple tricks for keeping your tension even. See why certain color combinations sing while others fall flat. You’ll leave with the beginning of a hat, or a finished headband. Skill Level: You should be able to cast on, knit and purl in the round on a circular needle. Materials: About 50 yards each of 3 different colors of worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn (choose colors you like together, but that have some contrast) and size 8 (5mm) circular needles 16” long. Stitch markers.

Pre-class work: Designate your colors A, B and C. Color A should be the one that contrasts most with the other two.
With circular needle and color A, cast on 80 sts. Place marker for beginning of round and join to work in the round.
With B, knit 1 round, then purl 2 rounds.
With A, knit 1 round.
With C, knit 1 round, then purl 1 round.

Sandi is the author of Not Just Socks, Not Just More Socks and Not Just Socks for Kids. Her designs and articles have appeared in Twist Collective, Knitter’s, Interweave Knits and Knit ‘n Style.  As a designer, she has worked with a number of yarn companies, including Alchemy Yarns, Kollage Yarns, Classic Elite, Nashua Handknits, Crystal Palace, Universal Yarns, Lana Grossa and Jamieson’s Shetland.  In her role as a technical editor, Sandi draws on her experience as both a teacher and former yarn store owner to help independent designers and yarn companies avoid the pattern issues that commonly cause problems for knitters.  Sandi is the head technical editor for Twist Collective and a member of the editing team for Knitter’s Magazine.  Sandi’s classes at Stitches events are always packed with returning students who come back year after year to spend a few fun hours leaning something new.
